PENDLETON, NC – Mr. Henry Grady Britton Jr., age 87 of Pendleton, NC, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC. He was born August 25, 1928 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Henry Grady Britton and Grizzie Blythe Britton.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Julia Barnes Britton; one daughter, Donna Britton Davis and her husband Mike; one son, David Britton and his wife Susan; four grandchildren, Allison Britton Wagner (Brandon), Michael Davis, Alex Britton (Sarah Grace), and Hillary Davis and her fiancé, Tommy Crowder; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Wagner and Corbett Britton; two brothers, William J. ‘Billy’ Britton (Millie) and Ellis Britton as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Britton was a life long farmer and gardener who continued to work the land during his retirement. During his later years, he enjoyed working in his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed visiting shut-ins and local nursing homes spreading humor and cheer. Mr. Britton was also active for several years with Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Britton was a Veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War from 1953-1955.

He was an active member of Galatia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over fifty years. He and his wife Julia taught Sunday School together for fifty years as well. He also served as church treasurer and Brotherhood Director.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Britton Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
