Miriam F. Taylor

FRANKLIN, VA – Miriam Frances Taylor of Franklin Va. passed away on February 1, 2016 at Courtland Health Care Center.
She was born October 7, 1943 in Como to William Thomas Taylor, Jr. and Cora Newsome Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Thomas Taylor, III; and longtime friend, Charles Cox.
Miriam graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1961 and East Carolina University School of Art in 1965. She pursued a career in the art field in Md., N.C. and Va. working in public schools, Wilbur Smith Architects, Va. Highway Department, CXS Railroad, and art galleries. She enjoyed sharing fun craft activities with her young nieces and nephews over the years and other young students at a community art center. Her family members treasure many pieces of art she created for them over the years.
Surviving are her brothers and sisters, Nancy Taylor Lane, Kenneth Newsome Taylor (Faye), Anne Taylor Brown, Marjorie Taylor Way, Carol Taylor Jewell (Glen), Lynne Taylor Fleischman (John), John Gardner Taylor, and Robert Lee Taylor (Linda); sister-in-law Jacqueline Ricks Taylor; and 15 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at Buckhorn Baptist Church in Como, NC with Rev. Jay Brabben and Rev. Sean Gallagher officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Miriam’s memory to Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Buckhorn Baptist Church Vacation Bible School Program, or American Cancer Society.
