SUMTER, SC – Jewel Fay Slaughter Thompson, 72, wife of James Davis “Dave” Thompson, died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence, SC.

Born February 7, 1943, in Conway, NC, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Gray Slaughter and the late Fay Burgess Slaughter. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years; two daughters, Patricia Anne Thompson and Wendy Leigh Thompson both of Sumter; a sister, Charlene Godwin (Tommy) of Ahoskie, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Gray Slaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3 at First Baptist Church of Sumter, SC with the Rev. Dan Barber and the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Harrison, Wallie Jones, John Jones, John James, Jim McMillan, and C.W. Ard.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult IV Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church and Dr. Ramzy Hourany.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at 18 Bobs Dr.
