AULANDER, NC – Shirley Griffith Welch, age 81, passed away on November 20, 2015 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Welch was born on June 22, 1934, in Bertie County, NC, a daughter of the late Thomas and Vivian Jenkins Griffith. Shirley was a member of Aulander Baptist Church and had served as Town Clerk for the Town of Aulander for nineteen years, having taken her father’s place in that position.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Gerald “Jerry” Welch; her daughter, Jennifer Welch Babidge and husband, Darrell of Cedar Hills, UT; her brother, David H. Griffith and wife, Shannon of Germanton, NC; and grandchildren, John Chandler, Joseph, Lydia, Sophia, and Ava Babidge.

A celebration of life graveside memorial service was held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Aulander Cemetery, Aulander, NC, with Rev. Robbie Parker, officiating.
