POWELLSVILLE – Judy Barnes Jones, age 75, of Powellsville, passed away on November 2, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Jones was born on August 31, 1940 in Bertie County, NC, a daughter of the late Clarence Albert and Margaret Askew Barnes. She was employed by the United States Postal Service in Powellsville, NC for 49 years, serving as Postmaster from 1981 until her retirement in 2012. Judy loved her church, Holly Grove Baptist Church, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed playing the piano, watching her hummingbirds, and cooking, especially fried chicken, butter beans and mashed potatoes. She loved all animals, but especially her dogs. Judy was a devoted wife and loving mother and friend and will be missed by all.

Besides her parents, Judy was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Albert, Jr., Danny, Robert, and Ralph, and sister, Florence Powell.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, John D. Jones; her son, John D. Jones, Jr. of Ahoskie, NC; her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Bayse of Ahoskie, NC; two brothers, Roy Barnes of Pollocksville, NC, and Phillip Barnes of Suffolk, VA; and two sisters, Darlene Castelloe and husband Gary of Windsor, NC, and Delores Jewett and husband, Eric of Johnson City, TN. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Whitney Kirkland; three grandsons, John Bayse, Ricky Bayse, and Jeremy Bayse; and three great granddaughters, Mercedes Bayse, Mallory Bayse, and McKenzie Kirkland.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the Garrett Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, with Rev. J. N. Baggett and Rev. John Byrum, officiating.
