JACKSON – Shots fired at a residence along US 258 south of Murfreesboro has led to Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith seeking the public’s help in solving the crime.

While there were no injuries in the Oct. 28 incident, Smith said more information is needed that will hopefully assist his deputies in identifying the person responsible for pulling the trigger.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt, but a crime occurred an d we are in the business of solving crime,” Smith said in a telephone interview on Thursday.

Smith stated that at least one bullet, perhaps two, struck a residence.

“The bullet hit the outside wall of the home, but never penetrated an interior wall,” he said.

The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office received a call for assistance around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. After deputies arrived on scene the homeowner reported to them that they heard several shots near their residence.

Smith said the investigation revealed that some unknown suspect or suspects fired several rounds in the direction of the residence. The investigators located several shell casings on U.S. 258.

“The homeowner was not able to provide any information at this time,” Smith stated. “We’re asking the public to assistance us in solving this crime by calling 252-534-2611 or by calling the Crimestoppers line at 252-534-1110. No matter how insignificant your information may seem, please give us a call.”
