WEEKI WACHEE FL-Alma Barber Jackson, 84, of Weeki Wachee, Florida died Thursday, October 22, 2015.

Born in Lisbon, NC on November 23, 1930, she raised her family in Murfreesboro, NC, moved to Raleigh, NC to complete her career, then spent her retirement years in Henderson, NC before moving to Florida to live with her son. She was the daughter of Alexander and Emily Mae Kemp Barber also of Lisbon.

She was a graduate of Clarkton High School in Clarkton, NC and of Miller-Motte Business College in Wilmington, NC. Alma was Town Clerk of Murfreesboro, NC and then Construction Grants Coordinator for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources until her retirement.

Alma was predeceased by her husband, Roger Ray Jackson, Jr. (NC House of Representatives 1959-1962); her granddaughter, Nancy Elizabeth Jackson of Monticello, Georgia; her son-in-law, H. Timothy Thomas of Henderson, NC; and two brothers.

She is survived by her son, Eric Barber Jackson and wife, Katherine of Weeki Wachee, Florida; her daughter, Emily Jackson Thomas of Henderson, NC; her sister, Bonnie Barber Hodges of Salisbury, NC; granddaughters, Marcia Jackson Abernathy and husband David, and Ashley Loftin Hyman and husband Theodore; and grandsons, Roger Peery and Eric Benjamin Peery; as well as six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Monday, October 26 at the First Baptist Church of Henderson, NC.
