POWELLS POINT, NC – Mary  Elizabeth Whitley Snead, age 83, of Powells Point, NC, previously of Richmond, VA, originally of Murfreesboro, NC, was passed into the arms of Jesus at midnight, September 29, 2015.

She was born on July 3, 1932, one of six children, and she follows into Heaven her parents, Joseph B. and Mary Waff Whitley; and four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Horace, and William Whitley.

Mary is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Charles “Pete” H. Snead; two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Snead Rowe and Jess Snead, both of Powells Point, NC; brother, Clarence Whitley and his wife Mary of Richmond, VA; grandson, James “Jamey” Charles Rowe of Leesburg, VA; granddaughter, Alison “Ali” Whitley Rowe of Kill Devil Hills, NC; great-granddaughter, Farrah Whitley Rowe of Leesburg, VA, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also left to cherish her memory are a little chihuahua dog and four cats, all of whom are rescues, who would have died years ago if not for her love and compassion for them. She passed this quality on to her children.

She was a devout Christian and lover of animals and nature. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to those near to her. Until she became physically disabled, she had been active in several churches throughout her life and could always be counted on to help with almost any task asked of her. She was loved and will be missed by many, but we shall meet again in the sweet by and by on that beautiful shore. This is promised to us by God and we cling to it.

Visitation was held Friday, October 2, 2015 at Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with a celebration of life service following at 2 p.m. Dr. Lee Canipe officiated and burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC.

It was her wish that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory, to the Feline Hope of Kitty Hawk, PO Box 893, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949 or your local SPCA/HSUS.

Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements for the Snead family and online condolences can be directed to the family by visiting www.garrettsykesfs.com.
