WINDSOR – John Henry Pierce, Jr., 80, of 535 Old US 17 North, Windsor, died Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Three Rivers Health & Rehabilitation Center, Windsor.
Mr. Pierce was born in Bertie County on June 27, 1935, and was the son of the late John H., Sr. and Maggie Mizelle Pierce. In earlier years he worked as a logger, then later as a correctional officer with the NC Dept. of Corrections, and after retirement was employed as a security guard with R.J. Reynolds Corp. in Merry Hill. A longtime member of Green’s Cross Baptist Church, he served for six years in the North Carolina Army National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both his wives, Betsy Ann Phelps Pierce and Jeannie Wynn Pierce; and by his sisters, Naomi P. Copeland and Dessie Mae Williams.
Surviving are four children, Deborah P. White and husband James of Windsor, Tommy Pierce and wife Donna of Edenton, Michael Wayne Pierce and wife Paula of Windsor, and Jimmy Pierce of Southern Shores; six grandchildren, Jesse W. Conner and wife Diana, Shannon Johnson and husband Kris, Kristy Johnson and husband Tracy, Casi Ann Pierce, Browning Pierce and Parker Pierce; and six great-grandchildren.
A visitation for friends and family was held Monday, Oct. 5 in the fellowship hall of Green’s Cross Baptist Church. A memorial service is being planned and those arrangements will be announced.
Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handled the cremation arrangements for the family.
