CONWAY – Rodney Burgess Barrett, 82, of Conway, NC passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Rich Square Health Care, surrounded by his wife and daughter.

He was a native of Northampton County and served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned home to make a living at what he was the most passionate about, farming.  He was a hard worker, a perfectionist in everything he did and reaped the benefits from all of his hard work.  Many may remember him as being the “peanut champ” for many years on both the State and County levels.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Kent Barrett; his parents, Clyde and Ruby B. Barrett; and his sister, Clyde Myrell Dixon.

Besides his love for farming, he will also be remembered for his love of antique tractors, cars and trucks.  He was known to spend many hours in his workshop tinkering on his antiques.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Hill Barrett; his daughter, Kim Bryant and her husband, Mike of Woodland; and his two grandsons, Matt and Brad Bryant and his wife, Emily. He was so proud of his grandsons and loved them dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Robert W. Barrett and his wife Billie Doris.

The family would like to thank everyone for the love and support shown to them. They would also like to give a very special thank you to the nurses, CNAs and the remaining staff at Rich Square Health Care for the compassion and care he received during his stay.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Conway United Methodist Church in Conway, NC with Rev. Robert Hill officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Conway Cemetery.
