Hazel O. James

WINDSOR – Hazel Outlaw James, daughter of the late George Washington Outlaw and Laura Virginia Carthene Rhea Outlaw, was born July 4, 1924 in Bertie County, Windsor, North Carolina.  She entered into eternal rest on July 27, 2015 at Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, Greenville, North Carolina.

She was a faithful member of Sandy Point Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor, North Carolina where she also served on the Usher Board until her death. She graduated from W.S. Etheridge High School.

Hazel was married to the late Floyd Harden James. To this union, eleven children were born. Hazel was preceded in death by two daughters, June and Darlene.

Leaving to cherish her memories are five sons: Clifton D. James (Lizzie) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Carl L. James (Nina) of Hampton, Virginia, Floyd J. James of Jamestown, North Carolina, Reginold A. James (Vanessa) of Aldie, Virginia, and Jeffery E. James (Lesa) of San Jose, California; four daughters: Christine C. Phillips (Joseph) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Maxine Y. Harvey (Delwyn) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Cynthia E. James of South Riding, Virginia, and Rhonda L. Lee (Darnell) of Windsor, North Carolina; and two sisters, Jean Bazemore of Portsmouth, Virginia and Shirley Grimes of Gatesville, North Carolina.  She also leaves thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four sister-in laws: Piccola Knowles of Wappinger Falls, New York, Otelia James and Helen James of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Nancy Outlaw of Windsor, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Point Missionary Baptist Church in Windsor, North Carolina, Rev. Sammy Fields, Pastor. The body will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church for the final viewing. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The services are entrusted to Reynolds Funeral Home of Ahoskie, North Carolina. The Reverend Robert Sessoms will be officiating.
