MURFREESBORO – Delbert Franklin Barnack, age 87 of Murfreesboro, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, June 22, 2015.

He was born on November 16, 1927 to Steve and Phoebe Barnack of Melby, MN. Delbert was a husband, father, builder of homes, entrepreneur, businessman, and engineer sans portfolio. He was the master of his fate; he was the captain of his soul. (Paraphrased from a poem by William Ernest Henley)

Delbert was preceded in death by his mother, Phoebe Peterson Barnack; father, Steve Barnack; daughter, Nancy B. Goode; son, Steven Leo Barnack; sister, Phyllis B. Beltz; and brother, David Barnack.

Delbert is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter, Mary Barnack and her husband George Givens of Cary, NC; son, Roger Barnack of Murfreesboro, NC; and five grandchildren: Gregory Givens of Cary, NC; Meredith Givens of Raleigh, NC; Andrew Givens of Johnson City, TN; Christopher Barnack of Burlington, NC; and Mirinda B. Foster of Snow Camp, NC. Also surviving are two great-granddaughters, Laura-Lynn Christine Foster of Snow Camp, NC; and Emma Jean Givens of Sanford, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday evening at the home of the Barnacks.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery.
