MURFREESBORO – Phyllis Whitley Parker, 72, a native of Murfreesboro, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center. She had been preceded in death by parents Russell Smith Whitley and Christine “Tee” Baggett Whitley; and sister Shirley Whitley Beatty.

Survivors include son, Kevin Cuthbertson and wife Michelle of Matthews; daughters, Whitney Cuthbertson of Murfreesboro, and Phelicia Cuthbertson Flanagan and husband, Benji of Raleigh; grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary, and Michael Cuthbertson, Ashley Flythe, Brittany, Cameron, and John Thomas Taylor, Levi Vinson, and Clarie and Jay Flanagan; and two great grandchildren, Kiersten and Joslyn Flythe.

Mrs. Parker worked as Financial Aid Administrator for many years at Roanoke Chowan College until her retirement and was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church where she served as WMU Director, Acteens Director, and was active in the West Chowan Baptist Association. She also was Hertford County Representative to the Mideast Commission, was a member of the Partnership Team for the Office of the Aging, was a member of the Murfreesboro Woman’s Club, holding several offices, and took an active part in the Water Aerobics Class at the Vidant Wellness Center in Ahoskie.

A Visitation for Mrs. Parker was held Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. 605 West Main Street, Conway, NC 27820 and her funeral service was Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Meherrin Baptist Church, Murfreesboro with the Rev. Josh Parsons and the Rev. J. N. Baggett presiding. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery.
