MURFREESBORO – James “Jim” Edward Williams, age 66, of Murfreesboro, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 4, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born on October 15, 1948 to William “Bill” and Dorothy James Williams in Murfreesboro, NC. Jim attended Northampton County High School. He loved the beach, fishing, doing yard work, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim was a member of Union Baptist Church and loved Jesus and his wife Susie with all of his heart.

He was a volunteer firefighter for many years, serving with Murfreesboro and Union Fire Departments. Jim was a huge NASCAR fan, pulling for Dale, Jr., always cheering on the Washington Redskins and the Carolina Tarheels when he got the chance. He was a painter most of his life, known by all that knew him as a fighter. He was a strong man through his fight with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Kay Tinkham.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Susie; two daughters, Janice Lynn Williams and husband Robert “Bob” Buttrey, and Amy Sue Williams and husband Anthony “Tony” Newby, both of Chesapeake, VA; three sons, Brian “BJ” Williams and fiancĂ©e Crystal of Murfreesboro, NC, David Williams and wife Kayla of Kenly, NC, and Blake Lassiter and wife Sandy of Woodland, NC; a sister, Beth Ogburn and husband Tom of Knoxville, TN; a brother, William “Billy” T. Williams Jr. and wife Brenda of Wilmington, NC; and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Amber, Alexis, Alice, Lindsay, Anthony “Peanut”, and Kian Williams, and Nate Lassiter.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 7, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Union Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Ahoskie, NC with a celebration of life service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Powell and Don Polvadore officiating.
