Lamera B. Leary

CHESAPEAKE, VA – Lamera Boatright Leary, age 86, of Chesapeake, VA, died April 26, 2015 at the Maryview Nursing Care Center of Suffolk, VA.

Mrs. Leary was born on September 8, 1928 to the late Clarence and Daisy Starling Boatright in Live Oak, FL.  She married Stephen S. Leary of Ahoskie on February 14, 1954; he preceded her in death in 2003.

Lamera received her LPN nursing degree from Roanoke-ChowanCommunity College. She worked at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, retiring after 25 years of service. She also worked at Cooksey’s Florist in Ahoskie.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie where she was involved in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and other work of the church.  Other organizations of service included Home Demonstration Club and Woodmen of the World, Chapter 328, Ahoskie. In WOW she served as president and participated in numerous community projects.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Leary was preceded in death by her sister, Willie Mae Tomkins; and her brother, Monroe Boatright.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carole Ann Leary of Portsmouth, VA; brothers-in-law, Dr. Thomas E. Leary and wife, Joyce, William E. Leary and wife, Bess of Ahoskie, and David O. Leary and wife, Bonita of Morganton, NC; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Garrett Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie.  A graveside celebration of life service will be conducted at Ahoskie Cemetery on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. by the Rev. Dr. Daniel Glaze. In the event that there is rain, the service will be moved to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie.
