Charles C. Howell

SEABOARD – Mr. Charles Cornelius Howell (C.C.), age 79, of Seaboard, NC passed away at his home on April 4, 2015.

C.C. was born September 7, 1935 in Seaboard, NC, the son of the late Howard and Alma Matthews Howell. He was also predeceased by his older brother, Howard Randolph Howell.

C.C. was the former owner of Howell Equipment Company for many years.  For twenty five years he was Human Relations Consultant for N.C. State. He was directly responsible for thirty four counties and was trained to cover the entire state in times of crisis.

C.C. was a lifelong member of Seaboard Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, Deacon, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Deacon Emeritus and Sunday School Superintendent. He was active in the Brotherhood of the Church, serving as president for several years. He was Region 1 Coordinator for Baptist Men. He was in charge of monthly community work for many years. He also went on five mission trips.

C.C. was a charter member of the Northampton County Chamber of Commerce, serving as president and on the Board of Directors.  He was a charter member of the Northampton Economic Development Commission.

He wrote, by hand, numerous letters to businesses and groups encouraging them to consider Seaboard as a desirable place to expand their business. He had a passion for seeing Northampton County grow. He was instrumental in getting Union Camp, Seaboard Garment Company, and Coghill Peanut Company to locate in Seaboard.

He was a member of Seaboard Lions Club and the Northampton County Forestry Club.  He was actively involved with Roanoke Rapids Chapter of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship where he held several offices, including President.

C.C. is survived by his wife of 53 ½ years, Carol Winston Howell of the home; two daughters, Catherine Lyons MacAllister (Mark) of Pittsboro, NC and Elizabeth Winston Parrish (Phillip) of Wendell, NC; two grandchildren, Manon and Cade MacAllister of Pittsboro, NC; and two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Parrish of Clayton, NC.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaboard Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Gaskins and the Rev. Steve Trussell officiating. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the services at Seaboard Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
