GATESVILLE – The case against a former EMT with the Gates County Rescue Squad who was arrested last year on child sex charges is scheduled for Superior Court here today (Tuesday).

Michael Ivie, 29, stands charged with four felonies – two counts of indecent liberties with a child, one count of solicitation of a child by a computer or other electronic device to commit an unlawful sex act, and one count of statutory rape of a child that is 13, 14 or 15 years old.

The U.S. Navy’s Criminal Investigative unit is credited with providing information leading to Ivie’s arrest.

While investigating a case involving Navy personnel, a NCIS agent alerted the Gates County Sheriff’s Office regarding Ivie’s alleged involvement with a teen girl. The agent was working another case, the electronic solicitation of child pornography, that allegedly involved the same young girl in Gates County. That investigation turned up the names of Ivie and another man who was arrested in Camden County.

Two other high profile cases are also on the Feb. 24 court docket, both involving a multi-jurisdictional probe conducted by local, regional and state law enforcement. Kristy Caro and Dawn Marie Enders both face several felony counts of conspiring to traffic opium/heroin, and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud/forgery.

Judge Jerry R. Tillett is scheduled to preside over the Feb. 24 session of Gates County Superior Court.
