CONWAY & NAGS HEAD – Susan Burgess Boncek, 64, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 while surrounded by family. She was born June 3, 1950 in Tarboro, NC to the late Hinton Randolph Burgess and Mary Brown Burgess.

Susan is survived by her husband, Edward Richard “Ricky” of Nags Head; daughter, Alexandra Elizabeth of Nashville, NC; brothers, Gerald Watson Burgess, Steven Randolph Burgess, Kevin Brown Burgess and wife Judy, and Neil Bryant Burgess and wife Donna; and one niece and seven nephews – all of Conway, NC.

Although a native of Conway, Susan was a long-time resident of the Outer Banks – living in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head for the last 30 years. Susan was well known for her love of the Outer Banks and served on many organizations supporting the development and preservation of her community, including the Dare County Parks and Recreations Advisory Councils and the Nags Head Board of Adjustments.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bridgers Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Funeral services and commitment will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Conway Baptist Church where Susan was a long-time member.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be sent to the Dare County Animal Shelter at 1031 Driftwood Drive, Manteo, NC 27954.
