Charles A. Whitley

RICH SQUARE – Charles Arthur Whitley, age 80 of Rich Square, died on November 13, 2014 at the Rich Square Health Care Center of Rich Square, NC.
He was a native of Northampton County, born on August 7, 1934 to Leon and Elsie Whitley. He served with National Guard for some seventeen years. Charles worked as an auto mechanic his entire life, currently employed with Morris Auto Service of Rich Square, NC. He was a member of the Rich Square Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing and was a member of the Roanoke-Chowan Wildlife Club.
He was preceded in death by mother, Elsie Lee Whitley, and father, Leon Whitley.
Charles is survived by his wife, Susan Wiggins Whitley of Rich Square, NC; daughter, Charlene W. Hoggard and her husband Ricky of Colerain, NC; three sons, Dwayne Whitley and his special friend Karen Clements of Jackson, NC, Carl Whitley and his wife Teresa of Lasker, NC, and Samuel Whitley and his wife Debi of Cypress, TX; three step daughters, Bobbie Burke and her husband David of Sanford, NC, Amy Singer of Geneva, IL, and Wendy Smith and her special friend Allen Sadler of Ahoskie, NC; two sisters, Pat Croxton and her husband Robert of Dunwoody, GA, and JoAnn Ralston and her husband Harold of Staunton, VA; brother, Albert Whitley and his wife Carolyn of Mechanicsville, VA; five grandsons, Matthew Hoggard and his wife Jamie, Jonathan Hoggard, Shannon Hoggard, Trent Whitley and Canyon Whitley; two granddaughters, Carington Whitley and Carsyn Whitley; seven step grandsons, Frank Harris and his wife Melinda, Josh Harris and his wife Holly, Steven Burke, Kye Singer, Austin Singer, Gavin Singer and Larry Smith, Jr.; and six step granddaughters, Katie Morgan and her husband David, Marileigh Crean, Connie Burke, Nichole Smith Martin, Ashley Smith and Brittany Smith. Surviving also are twelve step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, NC with the Rev. Bob Rogers and Rev. Matthew Reider officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, NC.
