ASKEWVILLE – Mary Johnson White, 79, of 148 West Askewville Street, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center.

She was born in Bertie County, March 22, 1935 to the late Elwood and Ruby Holder Johnson and was predeceased by her husband, William Raleigh White; brother, Clayton Johnson; and sister, Nellie White.

Mary was a member of Askewville Baptist Church and a dispatcher with the Bertie County Sheriff‘s Department.  She was a member of the Askewville Fire Department Auxiliary and the Bertie County Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Askewville Baptist Church by the Rev. Steven Moore and the Rev. R. O. Denton, Jr.  Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Sue White Cowan; sons, Steve N. White and William D. White, all of Askewville; grandchildren Stephen White, Jessica Pierce, Megan Elliott, Kelsey White, Curtis White; great grandchildren, Amy, Fletcher, Emerson, Taylor and Kevin.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home and from the home at other times.
