New ABC store to open

EURE – Twenty-seven months after losing its Eure location “to progress,” the Gates County ABC Board will open its new store today (Monday).
Gates County ABC Board Chairman G.P. Kittrell Jr. said that the new store – located at 26 US HWY 13 South (across from Tarheel BBQ) – is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10.
The new store will replace the former ABC store, located just a short distance further south on US 13, that was vacated due to the highway widening project in that area of Gates County.
“We’ve been without a store on that side of the county since August of 2012, so this is a long time coming,” said Kittrell about next week’s opening.
The new store was constructed for under $300,000. Calvin Davenport, Inc. of Rocky Mount was the general contractor. Bill Dove Architects designed the new store.
“That’s the same architect we used to build the new store in Corapeake a few years ago and we were very pleased with that design,” Kittrell said. “The Corapeake store is very efficient to operate, and easy to maintain, but the most desirable element of that store is its appearance. It’s not an eyesore.”
The new store will be similar to the one in Corapeake, Kittrell said. It will encompass 1,970 square feet, slightly smaller than the one in Corapeake.
“The retail space (1,396 square feet) of the Eure and Corapeake stores are the same; we didn’t need extra storage space in Eure so we cut back on those specs (574 square feet),” Kittrell noted.
Kittrell added that the Eure store will be self-service, allowing customers to browse and shop among the variety of products on shelves.
The new store will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
