‘Nightmare on Court Street’

GATESVILLE – Their costumes were standard-issued law enforcement uniforms and they didn’t ask for treats during a visit to Gates County residences on the day before Halloween.
Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies joined forces with the Gates County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday to serve 35 arrest warrants stemming from months of drug investigation work.
“We dubbed this drug round-up as ‘Nightmare on Court Street’ for the simple reason that those arrested will wind up at the county courthouse on Court Street (in Gatesville) and their visit there will prove to be a nightmare,” said Gates County Sheriff Ed Webb.
Beginning at around 8 a.m., officers fanned out over the county in teams….knocking on the doors of residences containing the addresses written on the search warrants. As is typically the case, many of the warrants went un-served due to the fact that the individuals sought were not at home.
“That doesn’t mean they’re off the hook; we have an arrest warrant with their name on it and it will be served,” Webb said.
Seven arrests were made:
Marcia Dorlette Eason, age 40, charged with one felony count each of sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the sell of a controlled substance;
Victor Dennis Herring, age 54, charged with two felony counts each of selling and delivering marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the sell of a controlled substance; and one felony count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and possession of marijuana;
William Bradley Cobb, age 28, charged with one felony count of selling and delivering marijuana, two felony counts of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the sell of a controlled substance; and one felony count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and possession of marijuana;
Cindy Leigh Story, age 55, charged with two felony counts of sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance;
Shane Michael Lyons, age 22, charged with one felony count of sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance;
Erica Kate Anderson, age 25, charged with two felony counts each of sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the sell of a controlled substance; and
Larry Donell Norfleet, 48, charged with three felony counts of sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and maintaining a vehicle, and one felony count of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the sell of a controlled substance.
“The sell and use of illegal drugs is prevalent all across our country and the world; we know we can’t bring it to a sudden stop, but I promise that my office will do everything we can to slow it down here in Gates County,” said Webb.
Webb thanked all of the law enforcement agencies that participated in the early morning drug round-up.
