AHOSKIE – Frances Phelps Barnes, age 94, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at The Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.

Frances was born to the late John R. Phelps and Fannie Tayloe on February 19, 1920. She married the now late Linwood S. Barnes on June 26, 1943 and to this marriage was born one daughter, Linda Barnes Dunn. Frances was a member of Ahoskie United Methodist Church, previously being a long time member of Union United Methodist Church. She loved cooking for family, compiling family history, fishing, and spending time with family.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Linda Barnes Dunn and her husband F. Stuart of Snow Hill; a sister, Myra Theodorakis of Wilmington; a grandson, Christopher Dunn and his wife Rebecca of Southern Pines; a granddaughter, Shana Paige Dunn of Kinston; and a great grandson, C.J. Dunn of Southern Pines; along with a host of nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own children.

A time to visit with the family will be Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. in the Ahoskie United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 p.m. at the Ahoskie United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the Celebration of Life service at Ahoskie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Circle, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
