AHOSKIE – Sandra Ann Roberts Meeks, 67, of 902 W. Camlin Street, Ahoskie, NC, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville.

Mrs. Meeks was born in Federalsburg, MD on October 19, 1946 and was the daughter of the late Percy H. and Pauline West Roberts. Known to many as “Precious”, she never met a stranger and also had the knack of ALWAYS seeing someone she knew, regardless of where she was, be it around town or across the country. Over her 30 years of cutting hair, she gained many loved and loyal clients.  At one time or another you probably received a card from Sandra, for which she was notorious, even in this age of emails.  She did try that “email thing”, but she never quite grasped the idea.  An amazing cook, her homemade biscuits will be sorely missed for years to come. To the consternation of some family members, certain “ingredients” just had to be part of her dishes, a pinch of sugar and very possibly a little bit of bacon drippings.  A devoted and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, for many years she also enjoyed membership in its Adult Choir.

Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Larry K. Meeks; five spectacular children, Hope Roberts Thompson of Windsor, NC, Elizabeth Thompson Harrell and husband Bryan of Ahoskie, David G. Thompson Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Atlanta, GA, John Everett Thompson and wife Jennifer of Raleigh, and Joseph Mark K. Meeks of Greenville; two wonderful grandchildren, Lauren and Cade Harrell, and two soon to be born awesome grandchildren; her brother, Phillip Hugh Roberts and wife Joy of Atlanta; three nieces; and many, many more friends who are just as much family.

A Celebration of Her Life was held Sunday, October 12, 2014 in First Baptist Church of Ahoskie by the Rev. Dr. Daniel E. Glaze.  A private burial was in Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor. Friends may join the family at the residence.

Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Vidant Home Health and Hospice, 521 W. Myers St., or to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, PO Box 649, both in Ahoskie, NC 27910, or to the Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas, PO Box 5627, Charlotte, NC 28299 (www.btfcnc.com).
