COLERAIN – William Rhodes White, 85, of 604 E. River Street, Colerain, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Mr. White was born in Bertie County on December 17, 1928, and was one of eight children born to the late Solomon Perry and Rosa Etta Dunlow White. For many years he managed the Farmer’s Supply Store in Colerain, and later retired from the NC Dept. of Transportation. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Colerain Beach and Boat Club, a faithful member and Deacon of Colerain Baptist Church, a member of Colerain Masonic Lodge, and a founding member of the Colerain Rescue Squad.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 65 years, Gladys Mizelle White; his three daughters, Phyllis Kaylor and husband Robert of Colerain, Theresa Gerba and husband Paul of Bedford, TX, and Donna White and husband Patrick Wratchford of Raleigh; a sister, Evelyn W. Swanner of Edenton; four grandsons, Robert Kaylor, Jr. and wife Allison, James Kaylor and wife Allyson, William Harris, Jr. and wife Rachelle, and Joseph Gerba; nine great-grandchildren, Kade, Zeb, Bex, and Willa Kaylor, Colton and Davis Kaylor, Kaylen, Alyssa, and Megan Harris; and a niece that was especially close to him and his family, Nonie Mizelle.
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m. in Colerain Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary D. Saffell. A private interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a reception in the social hall immediately following the church service on Wednesday, or at the residence on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
