Barbara A. Cocke

JACKSON – Barbara Jean Archer Wheeler Cocke, age 83 of Jackson, passed away on August 27, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Conway, NC

Mrs. Cocke was born on July 28, 1931, a daughter of the late John William and Mary White Archer in Jackson, NC. Barbara was a graduate of Jackson High School and Chowan College.  She was retired as a Supervisor for Northampton County.  Barbara was a member of the Jackson Women’s Club.  She enjoyed playing Bridge with friends and working in her yard, but mostly, she loved spending time with her family.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Cocke was preceded in death by her husbands, Willie Lewis Wheeler and James Scott Cocke, Sr.; a daughter, Jennifer Wheeler; her brothers, Rober Archer, and John Archer; and a sister, Carolyn Archer.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Vicki W.  Flythe and husband, Ricky of Conway, NC; her son, Jimmy Wheeler and wife, Kim of Jackson, NC; stepson, Jim Cocke and wife, Cathy of Jackson, NC; two stepdaughters, Betsy Galloway and Angeline Silvers, both of Newton, NC; and a brother, Jesse Wayne Archer and wife, Cathy of Chesterfield, VA. Also surviving are two grandsons, Andy Flythe and wife, Amanda of Conway, NC, and Daniel Flythe and wife, Ashley of Conway, NC; a granddaughter, Jennifer Flythe of Conway, NC; three step granddaughters, Jamie, Taylor, and Mollie Cocke, all of Greenville, NC; two great granddaughters, Kiersten and Joslyn Flythe of Conway, NC; and a great granddaughter on the way, Lily Grace Flythe.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Vicki, in Conway.

A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Jackson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Linda Clark officiating.  Burial followed in the Jackson Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson United Methodist Church, 206 Thomas Bragg St., Jackson, NC 27845.
