MURFREESBORO – Billy Ray Mooring, 78, of Murfreesboro died Saturday, August 16, 2014 in his home.

A native of Wayne County, he lived for many years in Hertford County.  A General Contractor by trade, he was a gifted carpenter who loved to fish, loved being on and around the water and generally enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lillie Dail Mooring of their home; five children, Libby Mooring (Danny), Julie Gray (J.W.), Johnny Mooring, Eddie Mooring (Donna), and Wayne Mooring (Peggy); seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Clayton Mooring; and one sister, Virsie Mooring Carter.

His graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Severn Cemetery.
