HARRELLSVILLE – John Edward Reid, Jr., 66, of Harrellsville passed away on June 10, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Reid was born on July 17, 1947, a son of John Edward and Florence (Robertson) Reid in Arlington, VA. John was a graduate of McArthur High School in Hollywood, FL, and received his bachelor’s degree in art from Florida Atlantic University, graduating in the top ten percent across the nation. He was a military veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved his neighbors, enjoying helping them in whatever capacity he could. John was a self-employed painter who took great pride in his work.

John is survived by his mother, Florence Robertson Reid of Ahoskie; a special friend, Betty Mathias of Ahoskie; an uncle, Alton Robertson and wife, Inez, of Colerain; two aunts, Sarah Watts and husband, John, of Cary, and Charlotte Robertson of Colerain; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Reid, Sr.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Mike Willard officiating.
