COLERAIN – Ellen Ruth Byrd Walton of 405 Loftin Lane passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Ahoskie House, Ahoskie, NC, at the age of 86.

She was born August 12, 1927 in Bertie County to Hillary Luther and Annie Baker Byrd.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Walton was predeceased by her husband, Horace B. Walton; two brothers, Jarvis and Shelton Byrd; one sister, Julia B. Hare; and a nephew, Jimmy Shepard.

She is survived by two sisters, Iris Rochelle of Tarboro, and Mary Ann Garner of Washington. She is also survived by three stepchildren, Lynn (Mike) Caddy of Maryland, William (Jane) Walton of West Virginia, and Timothy (Betty) Walton of Virginia.  Mrs. Walton is survived by nieces, Linda Byrd and Brenda Lassiter; nephews, Al Byrd, Luther Byrd, Scott Hare, Neil and Chris Cowan; and two step grandchildren. There are also great-nieces and great-nephews as well as two step great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at the Annie Baker Cemetery in Wakelon on Saturday, May 31, 2014 by Pastor Ina Dunning.

Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, handled the arrangements.
