AHOSKIE – Mrs. Betty Bethana Brinkley Baggett, age 91, of Ahoskie passed away on May 27, 2014 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie after a long battle with alzheimers.

She was born to the late Joseph Wright and Lessie Copeland Brinkley in Hertford County. Betty was a farmer’s wife and worked as a homemaker. She was an active member of Union Baptist Church and loved her Sunday School Class and her church family. Mrs. Betty enjoyed gardening and loved her family, especially family reunion gatherings. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, James Stanley Baggett, Sr., and five siblings, Jodie Ray Brinkley, Mildred Brinkley Wiggins, Starkey Brinkley, David Earl Brinkley, Donald Brinkley, and Jack Brinkley.

Betty is survived by her son, Jim Baggett and his wife, Kaye, of Durham; her grandson, Gregory Baggett and his wife, Jennie, of Snow Hill; two great-grandsons, Alex Baggett, and Josiah Baggett of Snow Hill; a great-granddaughter, Grace Baggett of Snow Hill; a sister, Edith Brinkley Stocks of Ahoskie; and two brothers, Quinton Brinkley and his wife, Frankie, of Chesapeake, VA, and Linwood Brinkley and his wife, Ada, of Roxobel.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. one hour prior to the funeral service at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Baggett, and the Dr. Rev. Eugene Martin officiating.
