WINDSOR – Thomas Joseph Alexander, 62, of 705 N. King Street, Windsor, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor.

He was born in Columbia, NC on May 14, 1951 to the late Alfred Grady and Ann Finngian Alexander and was predeceased by a sister, Nancy C. Alexander, and brother Grady Alexander.

He was a 1969 graduate of CreswellHigh School and attended COA.  He was a Marine Corps veteran.  Joe was a member of Cashie Baptist Church and Owner of Dan Pittman’s Insurance Agency. He was also a member of the Windsor Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, Bertie County Water Search & Rescue, Rotary Club, Veteran’s Club and the Windsor Town Council.  He was active with Hunter’s Helping Kids, and Toys for Tots. He served as Co-Chair for the Tee and Sea, and Chicken on the Cashie, and a former president of the Cashie Golf and Country Club.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Cashie Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Strother and the Rev. R. O. Denton, Jr.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Jamie A. Harmon and her mother, Nancy F. Joyner of Windsor; sister, Theresa “Toot” Jordan and husband Terry of Edenton; grandchildren, Ashley, Alex and Aydan Harmon of Windsor; nephews, Wendel Jordan of Edenton and Chris Alexander of Wilmington; and sister-in-law, Terri Walton Sandy of Newton Grove.

The family will receive friends from the home of Nancy Joyner, 601 Sterlingworth St., Windsor.  Memorial gifts may be made to the Windsor Fire Department, PO Box 805, Windsor, NC  27983.
