WILLIAMSBURG, VA – David Gaither Perry, 60, of Williamsburg, formally the Publisher of Roanoke-Chowan Publications in Ahoskie, passed away on March 10, 2014.

Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, Gaither is survived by his mother, Mrs. Faye Chapman, and was preceded in death by his father, Frank Perry; his three brothers, Trip, Chris, and Peter; and his beloved Labrador retriever, Bo.

Gaither was a newspaperman his entire adult life, working in various newspapers around the country including Clinton, NC; Lynchburg, VA; Suffolk, VA; Yorktown, VA; Ahoskie, NC; Fuquay Varina, NC; and Williamson, WV. Gaither started his career in advertising and worked his way up through roles as Sales Manager, Advertising Director, and Publisher.

A good friend and great companion, Gaither was a man of many interests…an amateur diver, occasional hunter, lousy card player, talented pool player, and music lover who was also a great storyteller with a terrific sense of humor.

Those who truly knew him loved him and will miss him and struggle to understand the destructive power that robbed us of our friend and eventually robbed him of his life. We hope and pray that God is holding him close and granting him the peace and comfort that so often eluded him in life.

Gaither was interred at Hampton Memorial Gardens and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations may be made to Bacon Street in Williamsburg, VA in Gaither’s name.
