AHOSKIE – Charlotte Shidler Lewis, age 84, passed away on February 28, 2014, at Creekside Health and Rehabilitation in Ahoskie.
Mrs. Lewis was born on March 10, 1929, in Winamac, IN, a daughter of the late Grover and Ethel Spencer Shidler. She was a member of Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Charlotte enjoyed doing many things, but most of all she loved her family, dedicating her life to her children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edgar Lewis; a son, Robert Lewis; and a brother, Jim Shidler.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan Lewis Cox and husband, Warren, Jr. of Aulander, and Ethel Jean Lewis of China; her son, Edgar Lewis, Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Cocoa, FL; and her grandchildren, Amber Lassiter and husband, Kraig of Ahoskie, Cheryl Stroud of Ahoskie, Rebecca Askew and husband, Bill of Ahoskie, Aaron Yeh of Las Vegas, NV, Melissa Cox of Manteo, and Kelly Cox of Boone; and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Lewis and Helen Abell, both of Kokomo, IN; and a brother, Grover Shidler of Star City, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service was conducted on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie, with the Rev. Taylor Latham officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s ResearchHospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
