Henry C. Britt Sr.

MURFREESBORO – Henry Clay Britt, Sr. was born November 16, 1928 in Hertford County, NC and departed this life at the age of 85 on February 17, 2014 at Creekside Nursing Home.
He was born the son of the late William E. and Bernice Newsome Britt. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Zollie, William, Sidney, and Joseph; and sisters Dessie, Mae Willie, and Ruth.
He joined Parker’s Grove Baptist Church at an early age and faithfully served as President of the Usher Board and Usher Union for many years. He also served as Deacon until his health failed.
He attended Calvin Scott Brown High School in Winton, NC. He served in the United States Army from March 1951-May 1953 and was transferred to the Army Reserve from May 1953-July 1956 when he was honorably discharged.
He worked for many years as supervisor at Alamac Knitting Mill and retired from Hertford County Public School System as Head Custodian.
On July 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to Catherine Manley, and from this union four children were born: Charles Bernard Britt, Sr. (Sylvia) of Rocky Mount, NC; Lorraine B. Holloman (Larry); and Henry Clay Britt, Jr. (Sarah), both of Ahoskie, NC; and LaWanda B. Burch (Milton) of Richmond, VA. He also leaves to cherish his memory six grandchildren: Charles B. Britt, Jr.; Edwina Crable (Earl); Kevin D. Holloman, Alicia L. Holloman, Kaila Kaye Britt, and Josalyn M. Wilkins; six great-grandchildren: Keshawn, Kevin II, Javon, Xavier, Brooklyn, and Kyleigh; one brother-in-law, Lee Vernon Manley; three sister-in-laws, Jean Britt, Viola Lambertson, and Onethia Manley; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. Reverend Fernando E. Temple, Sr. will be officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Family Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC.
