ROXOBEL – Hazel Leigh Brown Johnson (“Granny”), age 91 of Roxobel, N.C., passed away January 25, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, N.C.  She was born October 1, 1922 to Elijah Fleetwood Brown and Meta Perry Brown.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Eston B. Johnson, and her son, Russell Earl Johnson.

Survivors are her daughters, Dianne Baxley of Newport News, VA and Susan Whitfield (Jeffery) of Hamilton, N.C., and son, Charles Johnson (Bernice) of Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by her sisters, Dora Harrell, Myrtle Dunfee, Martha Nash, and Bernice Bailey. She was a loving mother and grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

At Granny’s request, there will be no funeral. Her wishes were for a private memorial for the immediate family.
