TARBORO – Mrs. Helen Marie Corbin Anderson, age 90, died at the VidantMedicalCenter in Greenville on Friday, January 17, 2014.
A graduate of SyracuseUniversity with a nursing degree, she served in the Army during World War II where she met her husband, Dr. Robert Allen Anderson. She and her husband resided in Ahoskie, North Carolina where they raised their two children. Mrs. Anderson moved to Tarboro in early 2010.
Mrs. Anderson was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ahoskie. Lovingly known as the one in charge, she organized special gatherings, card games, and trips with family and friends to her home-away-from-home in Emerald Isle. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Robert Allen Anderson; her brother, John Corbin; and her parents, Wheeler and Theresa Corbin.
Survivors include a son, David Robert Anderson and his wife, Lillie, of Tarboro; and daughter, Susan Anderson Drzal and her husband, Michael, of Blacksburg, VA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kevin and Laura Anderson, Chris Drzal and Katie Drzal Rice; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Zara Anderson.
A memorial service was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Ahoskie on Monday, January 20, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, a favorite charity of Mrs. Anderson and her husband.
