AULANDER – Matthew Zane Jones, age 22, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from injuries incurred in an auto accident.

Matthew was born in Hertford County on April 25, 1991, a son of Connie Elaine Newsome and the late Charles M. Jones.  He worked as a plumber’s assistant and enjoyed just having fun and being a “goofball”.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Connie Elaine Newsome of Aulander, two brothers, Christopher Newsome of Winton and Michael Jones of Aulander; stepfather, Larry Bailey, Jr.; stepsister, Megan Bailey; his maternal grandparents, Connie Price Newsome and Kenneth Marshall Newsome, Sr. of Winton; his paternal grandmother, Josepha Jones of Virginia Beach, VA; and his special friend, Donna Whitaker. Besides his father, Matthew was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Charles T. Jones.

A celebration of life service was conducted on Saturday, December 21, 2013 in the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie.  Burial  followed in Stoney Creek Cemetery, Ahoskie.  The family will receive friends at the home.
