AULANDER – Mrs. Emily Barnes Miller, age 101, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Wilson Medical Center in Wilson.

Emily was born in Bertie County on September 26, 1912 to the late Mary Ella and John Luther Barnes. Mrs. Miller was the bookkeeper at Ahoskie Meat and Provision for 37 years and retired from working with the Virginian Pilot at the age of 95. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvin Miller; and two brothers, Luther Carlton and Linwood S. Barnes.

She is survived by her son James Michael Miller and his wife, Patricia, of Wilson; a sister, Garnette B. Pierce of Ahoskie; two granddaughters, Meredith C. Taylor of Cary, and Anna Marie Wolford of Raleigh; three great grandchildren, Austin Godfrey, Aidan Hale and Arron Hale; extended family, Elyssa Fassnacht and her husband Nick and children Kylie and Peyson of Wilson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, PO Box 649, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or American Cancer Society, 930 Wellness Drive # B, Greenville, NC 27834.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 12 noon with visitation to follow the service. Dr. Jesse Croom and Dr. Daniel Glaze with be officiating. The family will have a private burial prior to the service.
