COLERAIN – Frank Dupree Newbern, age 82, died Monday, November 18, 2013, at Ahoskie House.

Mr. Newbern, affectionately known as “Judge” to his family and friends, was born in BertieCounty on June 6, 1931, a son of the late Joseph James “Jim” and Blonnie Fairless Newbern. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Perrytown and was a retired farmer. “Judge” enjoyed listening to gospel and country music, especially the Carter Family, and sitting on the front porch playing his guitar.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Sadie N. Castello of Powellsville, Faye N. Cobb of Murfreesboro, and Forrise N. “Blue” Fairless of Harrellsville.

Besides his parents, Mr. Newbern was predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth Wayne Newbern, and Betty Ray N. Castello.

A celebration of life service was conducted on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie with the Rev. Tommy Tripp officiating.  The family will receive friends at the home of Forrise N. Fairless.
