MURFREESBORO – Bernice Nipper Burke, 77, died October 22, 2013 at her home in Murfreesboro after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Hertford County and was a member of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Ulmer Nipper and Bernice Warren Kenney, Mrs. Burke is survived by her husband of 61 years, Henry W. Burke; children, Ava B. Parrish and husband, Cecil, of Severn, Jeff Burke and wife, Susan, of Ahoskie, Mike Burke and wife, Wanda, of Lewiston, and Stacey Burke of Danville, VA; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Pat Sawyer and husband, Richard, of Sedley, VA; and nephew, Heath Sawyer of Charlotte.

Her funeral service was held Saturday in Murfreesboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Monica D. Yungeberg presiding.  Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro.
