George Stamatis Theodorakis and Betty Howell Theodorakis

LAKE WACCAMAW – George Stamatis Theodorakis, 70, and Betty Howell Theodorakis, 71, both of Lake Waccamaw, died suddenly on Thursday, September, 19, 2013.
George was preceded in death by parents, Stamatis J. Theodorakis and Maria Margaret Jones Theodorakis; brothers: Nicholas S. Theodorakis and Gus Theodorakis; and son, Stevie. He is survived by brothers: Michael S. Theodorakis (Karen) of Kill Devil Hills, John S. Theodorakis of Winterville, and Bill S. Theodorakis (Betsy) of Murfreesboro; sisters: Irene T. Zervos (Mike) of Novi, MI and Fontini T. Wagner of New Port Richey, FL.; son, Michael, and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by parents, Carl Howell and Marie Askew Howell of Murfreesboro; and son, Stevie. She is survived by brothers: Ronald Howell (Carolyn) of Kitty Hawk, and Mitchell Howell (Josie) of Willow Springs; son: Michael and many nieces and nephews.
George and Betty were married for 50 years. George retired from International Paper after more than 40 years where he worked in the lab. He was a devoted father and an avid hunter and fisherman who could be seen at many area sporting events with his sons, Stevie and Michael.
Betty was a registered nurse who worked for many years in the area from the hospital to doctor’s offices and finally retiring recently from the home health care field where she touched many lives of patients and families she cared for. She and her family were members of Peace United Methodist Church where she served God faithfully.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. at New Life Community Church on Maultsby Street in Whiteville, NC. Funeral services will follow at New Life Community Church on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lake Waccamaw, NC.
Family will receive friends at the home of George and Betty (104 West Cypress Street, Lake Waccamaw, N.C.) following the burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lake Waccamaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations are urged to be made to Duke Children’s Hospital at 2301 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC27705.
McKenzie Mortuary Service, Whiteville, is handling the arrangements.
