MOORESVILLE – George Lawson Watson, III, 57, of Mooresville, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at his residence.
He was born on February 29, 1956 in Charleston, SC. He married just out of high school to wife, Bonnie in 1974. He had many opportunities to travel the world, both for work and pleasure.
George graduated from Gardner Webb University and worked with General Dynamics SATCOM for 30 years as a Director of Purchasing. He was instrumental in the successful building of the ALMA (Atacama Large Military Array) radio telescope system located in the Chilean dessert.
An accomplished musician, George played bass guitar for fun in many bands and in his church, St, Therese, for many years. Known for his calm nature, wonderful off beat sense of humor, his interest in music, politics, golf and his love of the outdoors, he enjoyed trips on the Shenandoah River with his “canoe” boys.
George is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie Hawes Watson; his mother, Carol Sawyer Watson; and two daughters, Kristen Watson, and Jennie Watson Green and husband Kyle and their children, Addison and Ryker. He is also survived by 11-in-laws, many nieces and nephews and too many wonderful friends and relatives to list. He was preceded in death by his father, George Watson; and brother, Tom.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC.
