Daredevils welcomed

EURE – Imagine racing across the water on a pair of skies, lining yourself up just right towards a ramp and then launching skyward, hopefully ending this short trip without any broken bones.

Now imagine performing this task at night.

That’s what a group of daredevils will undertake next Saturday (Aug. 3) when the Beaver Lake Ski Club hosts its Record Water Ski and Night Jump.

The highlight of the weekend will start about 6 p.m. with exciting head-to-head Slalom leading into a thrilling Night Jump competition.  Beaver Lake will be lit up to accommodate a night jumping event that is fast becoming the most exciting spectator attraction in competitive water skiing.

The Record Slalom and Jump competition will start at 8 a.m. Saturday and conclude by 4 p.m., allowing time to switch over to night mode and a festive atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Gates County EMS will be hosting food and beer concessions and there will be great music playing for all to enjoy. There will also be a Corn Hole tournament which will begin at 4 p.m.

The entrance to Beaver Lake is located on US 13 just north of the Chowan River bridge in Gates County. Signs will direct spectators to the access road.
