AHOSKIE – Wood Trowell and Alden Cottle combined on a two-hitter to lead the Cashie All-Stars to a 14-2 semi-final win over Hatteras on Saturday that set up Sunday’s district championship shutout, 3-0, over Roanoke Valley in the 12-U Babe Ruth-Cal Ripken regional tournament at Ahoskie Creek Recreational Park.

Saturday, Cashie got two runs in the top of the first inning when Trenton White singled and stole second. Cottle followed with a walk and both runners moved up after another double-steal. White scored on a Jacob Damo groundout while Cottle crossed on a Ryan Hoggard single.

Cashie got four in the third for a 6-1 lead after three and they added two more in the fourth when White scored on a wild pitch and Cottle came in on a Ryan Hoggard RBI.

Cashie closed it out with six runs in the top of the fifth. White and Damo had two-run doubles each, Tristan Hoggard had an RBI groundout, and Ryan Hoggard had a run scoring single to cap the 14-2 win.

Trowell got the pitching win, striking out 11 batters on two runs and two hits while Cottle pitched the last inning and struck out the side. Ryan Hoggard’s three hits and three RBI led Cashie while Trowell, White, and Nixon Rascoe had two hits each. Damo and Tristan Hoggard had a hit apiece and five RBI between them.

That win sent Cashie into the title game against RoanokeValley on Sunday where the All-Stars’ championship made them a perfect 3-0 for the weekend.

Scoreless thru the first three innings, Cashie finally scored in the top of the fourth. Cottle walked, went to second on Damo’s bunt single and scored on Trowell’s RBI single to right for a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth, Chris Brantley singled to center, stole second, and went to third on Zack Castelloe’s groundout. Brantley scored on a Cottle RBI single to left making it 2-0.

The final Cashie run came in the top of the sixth when Tristan Hoggard and Nixon Rascoe drew back-to-back walks. Hoggard scored when Brantley reached second on an error. With the score 3-0 Roanoke Valley did not score in the bottom of the sixth and Cashie was off to Roanoke Rapids and the state tournament.

Tristan Hoggard went all six innings for the win on the mound, allowing no runs on four hits with 8 strikeouts. Cashie’s five hits were one each from Cottle, Trowell, Damo, Brantley, and Tristan Hoggard.
