CONWAY – Helen Louise Lassiter died as she wished on Wednesday, June 11, 2013, in the comfort of her home of 97 years, with friends and her dog, Juniper, at her side.
She was born on September 13, 1915, the child of the late Silas Franklin and Jessie Helen Lassiter. She had one beloved brother, the late Silas Marion Lassiter.
She is survived by Marion’s wife, Anne; her niece, Judy Shroats and husband, David; and nephew, Joe Lassiter and wife, Kathy. She treasured Judy’s and Joe’s children, Jeremy Shroats, Lauren Taylor and husband Rusty, Emily Winn and husband David, Ian Lassiter, and Evan Miller. She was proud and excited about the addition to the family of Lauren’s and Emily’s children, Aiden Taylor, Avery Taylor, Marion Winn and Harrison Winn.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Conway and member of the Conway United Methodist Church. She attended East Carolina University and graduated with a teaching degree. After teaching for a brief period she returned to care for her ailing mother and spent the remainder of her years in support of her church and her family. She was a kind, gentle and loving person and we will miss her greatly. Her life will be remembered for her dedication to her extended family and the service she provided to others through her church.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to all of Helen’s friends in Conway who were so good to her and did so many wonderful things to help her over the years. She loved them and they loved her back. We also want to thank Vidant Home Care and Hospice for their kind, compassionate and professional care and her three in-home care givers, Gloria Bottoms, Elaine Manley and LaWanda Turner who worked so hard to make it possible for her to spend her last days at home in as much comfort as possible.
A viewing was held at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway on Saturday, June 15 and the funeral service was conducted at the Conway United Methodist Church with a graveside service following on Sunday, June 16.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Conway United Methodist Church, PO Box 306, Conway, NC 27820 and/or Vidant Home Health and Hospice, 1005 W.H. Smith Blvd, Greenville, NC 27834.
