SEABOARD – A 2-year-old child drowned this weekend in a pool off Big John’s Store Road in NorthamptonCounty.

Captain Brenda Burnette of the Northampton County Sheriff’s office said the drowning occurred at a family gathering in the Pleasant Hill area.

The child, whose name Burnette declined to give, was found in the pool after children were called to eat. Law enforcement and NorthamptonCountyEMS were dispatched to the scene.

The issue of who was supposed to be supervising the child was not clear. The report did not indicate whether the pool was above ground or in-ground.

Burnette said the sheriff’s office is still looking into the matter, but foul play is not suspected.
