Thomas John McKim III

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – Thomas John McKim III, formally of Ahoskie and St. Simons Island, GA, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Doak Walker Care Center in the care of Hospice in Steamboat Springs, CO with his son David by his side.
He was born December 25, 1925 in Robersonville, NC to the late Thomas John McKim II and Elizabeth Pope McKim. He attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also served in the US Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Janice Earley McKim; his son, Thomas John McKim IV; and his brother, Herbert McKim.
Survivors include his children, Cathie McKim and husband Michael, Beth Newsome and husband Steve, and David McKim and wife Tammy; six grandchildren, Keitsa, Kristie and husband Jonathan, Brian, Hayden, Cooper, and Hudson; a great grandson, Jay; sister, Chris Hebbe and husband Jim; sister-in-law, Catherine McKim; and many nieces and nephews.
All that knew Tom appreciated his love of life and his passion for fishing and hunting. He was happiest surrounded by his family and friends.
The family will have a celebration of his life at a later date.
