AHOSKIE – Brenda Gray Francis passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 at her residence.

She was born October 24, 1942 in Southampton County, VA to Elvin T. Gray and Gracie Gray Story. Brenda graduated from Southampton High School in 1960 and attended Roanoke-Chowan Community College and obtained various certificates over her years of work.

Brenda lived most of her adult life in North Carolina where she did CPA work and tax preparation for almost 50 years for various individuals and companies.  Her most recent was with H & R Block in Ahoskie where she shared many hours of work and made many lasting friendships.

Brenda was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church in Newsoms, VA, and she loved spending time there with her mother when they were able to attend.

Brenda loved all kinds of music, but beach music was her favorite. In addition to music, she was an avid NASCAR fan; she loved gardening and spending time outside with nature, dancing, and spending time with her family.

Brenda was a loving and devoted daughter to her mother and was always supportive of her family and friends.  She was always a participant in her nieces and nephews lives and shared many special times in their homes and outside activities. Brenda’s second love in life besides her family was her special pet “Duke” whom will join her in her heavenly home. Brenda will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Brenda is survived by her mother, Gracie B. Gray Story of East Pavilion in Franklin, VA; a sister, Audrey G. Pope and brother-in-law, James Pope, of Courtland, VA; a sister, Catherine Parker and brother-in-law, Frankie Parker, of Franklin, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, VA with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. Memorials may be made to Barnes United Methodist Church in Newsoms, VA.

The family would like to express their appreciation for all of the care Brenda received from her doctors, nurses, Hospice, and her special caregivers and family members for their steadfast love and care during her illness.
