Orville Britt

MURFREESBORO – Orville Britt, 68, of Murfreesboro, known to some as “Orlee Howard”, departed this life Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the home after 13 years of declining health.

Mr. Britt was born in Hertford County to the late Alton and Ruth Howard on April 21, 1945. At an early age he became a member of the Parker’s Grove BaptistChurch in Mapleton. He received his education through the Hertford County School System. He was drafted in the United States Army, and served in the Vietnam War. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned home to help in the operation of the family business, “Howard’s Garage” until his health began to fail him.

He joined the Parker’s Grove Baptist Church at an early age, and was a frequent worshipper of the First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro.

He leaves to mourn, a wife of 41 years, Queen Fennell Britt. He had one child which preceded him in death, Orville Britt, Jr. Two daughters, Kim Jordan (James) of Colonial Heights, VA, and Tracy Britt Tucker (Ronald) of Chesterfield, VA; a son, Nicholas Britt (Ursula) of Stone Mountain, GA, and a son of which he raised, Christopher Fennell, of Hampton, VA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kimbry, Yevora (Delane), James “LB”, Michael (Lisa), RonTre, Quintara and Camden; and three great grandchildren, Delane III, Deleya, and Semaj. He leaves six sisters, Virginia Briggs, (Carroll) of Petersburg, VA, Annie Vaughan (Fred), Annie Newsome, Bernice Mitchell (Charles), and Vernice Howard Williams, (Johnny), all of Murfreesboro, and Rose Pulley (Sammy) of Raleigh; one brother, Christopher Vinson of Murfreesboro; two sister-in-laws, Ethel Barnes (Hampton, VA), and Vera (Lorraine) Britt of Ahoskie; three brother-in-laws, Russell Fennell (Margaret) of Aulander, Willie Fennell (Sandra) of Ahoskie, and McCoy Fennell (Mildred) of Hampton, VA; two aunts, Mrs. Bernice Howard of Murfreesboro, and Mrs. Jean Britt of Newport News, VA; two uncles, Mr. Joseph Howard (Francis) of Newport News, VA, and Henry Britt (Catherine) of Ahoskie; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, Murfreesboro. Interment followed at Howard Family Cemetery on the Vaughantown Road.
