GATES – Anne Mathias Sexton, 91, of Medical Center Road, Gates, died Friday, April 12, 2013 in her home.

Mrs. Sexton was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth Dale Mathias. She and her husband, the late Joseph Jordan “J.J.” Sexton, were the owners and operators of County Market at Eason’s Crossroads for many years.  A faithful member of Gatesville Baptist Church, she was a strong Christian, a devoted mother, and a loyal friend who loved to share her blessings with others.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Aldeen Duke; and by a brother, Thomas Mathias.

Surviving are her daughter, Jo Anne Slaughter of Virginia Beach, VA; her son, Don Sexton and wife, Linda, of Monroe, VA; two sisters, Juanita Christiansen and Joyce Sexton, both of Winton; her granddaughter, Jennifer Hultzman of Portsmouth, VA; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Rev. Gene Asbill.  Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.

Friends may join the family Monday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
